Green Lantern Emerald Knights

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights was released on June 7, 2011, and is an anthology film that tells various stories featuring members of Green Lantern Corps, including Abin Sur, Laira, Kilowog, and Mogo.

It is the eleventh in the line of DC Universe Animated Original Movies to be released, the previous being All-Star Superman, and the next being Batman: Year One.

Plot[]

When mysterious creatures come out of a rift in Oa's sun and kill Ardakian Trawl, the Guardians of the Universe call in all Laterns for an debriefing. They explain that from research they've done on Ardakian's ring, they've discovered the creatures that killed her were Shadow Demons from the anti-matter universe, and that they were sent by Krona. They explain Krona created the anti-matter universe billions of years ago and almost annihlated all of creation. Therfore, as punishment, he was turned into disembodied energy and cast into the universe. However, recent events suggest he has managed to reconstitute himself in the anti-matter universe and take control over the Shadow Demons, whom he sent to begin his attack. The Guardians send several Lanterns to patrol the sun for any other rifts that might appear, and begin evacuating Oa, fearing Krona will come to destroy it. They suggest all present Lanterns charge their rings in advance as the Central Battery will be removed as well.

The Lanterns who were sent to the sun form observation platforms and rotate in patrolling the sun, with Shadow Demons attacking every now and then. Eventually, Oa is completely evacuated, and every Green Lantern arrives at the sun. After stopping another attack by Shadow Demons, a large rift opens in the sun, and Krona emerges. He uses the Shadow Demons to attack the Lanterns and defend himself from their attacks, and appears invulnerable to anything the Lanterns throw at him.

Arisia Rrab, a new recruit in the Green Lanter Corps that was put under the supervision and training of Hal Jordan, suggests that since Krona is made of anti-matter, the only thing that can defeat him is matter of equal or greater mass. Therfore, the Lanterns lead Krona to Oa and use their combined power to send the planet at him, killing him. Until a new Oa can be built, Mogo, a living planet who is also a Green Lantern, becomes the Green Lantern Corps' temporary headquarters. Arisia Rrab's idea and the attack of Krona are written in the Book of Oa, and the Lanterns begin building a new planet to act as their base.

Throughout these events, Hal Jordan and Sinestro tell Arisia several stories about different Green Lanterns.

Continuity[]

The events taking place in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights are hard to connect to another universe. Originally, the film was thought of as a sequel to Green Lantern: First Flight. It was used more often, however, to help commercialize the Green Lantern live-action film of 2011. Many aspects of the plot though take it away from either of these universes, most notibly being that Sinestro is still a Green Lantern in this film even though, he becomes a Sinestro (or Yellow) Lantern in both First Flight and the Live-Action feature. Arisia Rrab is another character whose circumstances yield continuity information as Emerald Knights takes places while she is still a new Lantern and being trained by Hal Jordan, even though another version of Arisia was also in First Flight -- which takes place during Hal Jordan's origin -- leading one to assume these are two different depictions. Nathan Fillion also plays Hal Jordan in Justice League: Doom , but no other information is present to prove these two universes are the same. For these reasons, Emerald Knights stands alone in its universe.
